One of its broader spherical rings is marked with a degree graduation, the other one is decorated with symbols of zodiacs. The model displays the geocentric view of the world. It is one of the oldest astronomical devices of manhood. Until telescopes were invented, it was the most important observation and measuring instrument. The imaginary observer is deemed in the centre of the central globe, which symbolizes the earth. It´s today’s name derives from medieval times.
